WIP Wednesday - And This is Where It Gets Hectic...

A robot phone call this week about school starting in a month made me realize the summer is not going to last forever, and that means fall craft season is just around the corner!
Haven't made her in a while, first towel on the new machine!

Mane Event Pick A Pocket Wallet (ChrisW Designs)

There are some custom fabrics that you really need to see in person to appreciate.  The first few times I saw the Mane Event (Backstitch fabrics), I thought it was cute, but not something I'd ever need.
Technically the back, but the best place to showcase the fabric!

WIP Wednesday - Need To Be MORE Productive!

I feel like I have a lot I'm getting done, but somehow it doesn't look like it...I'm still cutting out the pieces for the sew-along, and running the embroidery machine non-stop!
I love this fabric...I missed my chance to get more!

Factotum Sew Along Update

How is everyone doing on the sew along? We are almost caught up to the schedule, so the next video will be for the front pocket and flap (Maybe today, maybe in a week...)!  The straps video is up, if you need that!
Still need to cut the lining and ALL the interfacing...

Siren Tote Pattern Testing (XOXO by Lauren)

I love new patterns, so even when I really don't have time to sneak in a test, I usually will volunteer!  Fortunately this one is SUPER fast!
Amazing panel from Moon Beam Textiles (sold out, but maybe we'll get a re-run!)

Factotum Sew Along - Cutting, Interfacing and Straps!

I'm not sure why I thought I'd have time to get ahead on this sew along...I'm still barely cutting my pieces!! The good news is that Amanda is already almost done cutting, so she'll be finishing that up much sooner than I will!
For cutting, I really love my giant quilting square.  I bought the 20.5"x20.5" square on amazon for my reading pillows, but it is amazing for the bigger tote bags that don't have paper pieces.  You could always tape some paper together and make a pattern piece, but I find that the ruler is much faster unless I'm planning on making a production run of something.

The straps will be a quick(ish) prep and sew, so if you are ready for that step, feel free to power on through!

Don't forget to join the sew along group (and the main group!)  And there are going to be some awesome prizes in the main group for the 10k member celebration!

WIP Thursday - Not Ready for July

This is another birthday heavy month for my family, with a minion, a sister in law, a brother, a bff, some cousins, and of course MY July means we are on the downhill slide to Christmas!  So not ready...
I don't have a good daylight pic of the finish, but the colors are amazing and this was just a few days ago!

Sew Along - Factotum Plan!

UPDATED!  This bag is taking us longer than we estimated!!

Here's the tentative itinerary for the sew along, and the good news is that if you can't sew along on that day, the videos will be up in the group!  Or if you want to work ahead without the videos, feel free!  We'll be doing the Factotum from ChrisW designs, an amazing pattern that will impress everyone that sees it!  It looks complex, but we'll be there to hold your hand through the Sew Along!

Marauder's Map Ellen's Esplanade (ChrisW Designs)

Sometimes when I get busy a project slips through the cracks and never gets shared!  This Marauder's Map Ellen's Esplanade is too cute to be neglected!
Fabric is from several groups, Affordable Fabrics and More for the main maps

Sew Along! - Factotum by ChrisW Designs - Prep Work

It's been a while since the last sew along!  For this one we'll be doing the Factotum by ChrisW Designs.  It was originally released last year in the Bag of the Month club, but now you can purchase it individually HERE.

WIP Wednesday - Slowly Chipping Away at the List

Sometimes you just have to stop procrastinating and finally do the simple task you've been putting off...
Late night couch picture, too tired to pull out the light box!

Adventurous Potter Bonnie Bucket Bag (Swoon) With Concealed Pocket

Sometimes when I get a request for a bag, we go through several stages to find the 'perfect' one!  This bag is the result of a few months of back and forth emails and etsy conversations, but I think it turned out great!
Technically the back, with the zipper, but love how it looks!

WIP Thursday - It's All Fun And Games

...Until you realize you spend more time with the seam ripper than sewing...which was me this weekend.
Next wallet, hopefully much less seam ripping...

Great Love - Sandra Saddle Bag (Swoon)

The final teacher bag was for a teacher that we LOVE!
Do small things with great love, which sums up this teacher perfectly!

WIP Wednesday - Finally Got That Nap

Naps are amazing.  Why do we waste them on toddlers? I could totally use them now!
New order, this time I'm sending it unfinished so she can frame it however she wants!  Fabric from Moonbeam Textiles!

Boon Wallet (XOXO by Lauren)- Teacher Gifts

I have limited myself to only doing teacher gifts when they are in elementary school (I'm sorry middle and high school teachers, you deserve it just as much, but this year has shown me that trying to fit in extra is just not going to work for me!)  but this was the last year for my son, and somehow I forgot that in 5th grade they rotate through teachers.  He had 3 main teachers, so I had to do something for all of them...

Skulls and Stripes - India (Swoon) Moon Beam Textiles

Did you ever make something and think, "Wow, I wish I was cool enough to use this?"  I'm pretty sure my kids would tell me that I'm NOT cool enough to carry this purse!
Red zipper totally pops!

WIP Thursday - Is It Nap Time Yet?

I still haven't fully recovered from my illness, but there's no time for sleep yet!  (Also I'm coughing so much I don't get much sleep anyway)
Preview of all the teacher gifts, they loved them! Features on them soon!

Hobbit Morning Glory Pouch (Blue Calla) - Moon Beam Textiles

The second piece of the After Dark fabric from Moon Beam Textiles (aff link) was intended for a clutch, but nothing I was running across really seemed to make it pop.  The Morning Glory pouch from Blue Calla has been on my list for a while, but without a plan.  Then I started looking at what could fit in the flap accent hole, and my stash of Hobbit fabric was perfect!  It's a Hobbit door, from a previous Moon Beam run, and I won't say how long it's been in my stash...
I debated on the correct 'up' for this door, but I finally decided doors open both ways, so it's all good.

Footprints In The Sands of Tattooine - Moon Beam Textiles

The newest rounds are open at Moon Beam Textiles! (affiliate link)  Lately they've needed all the ambassadors to pitch in with the new fabric rounds, which I'm not complaining, but squeezing in projects for awesome fabrics is limiting what I have time to make!  For this one, I got 2 pieces of the Moon Beam Textiles After Dark 'glitter' fabrics.  They are like skin tones, but to me they looked like sand and dirt!

WIP Wednesday - Stuff Is Getting Done

Well, somewhat done...or at least worked on!  I'm frantically trying to catch up from last week, and prepare for next weekend, while still recovering.  Fortunately a lot of the stuff I'm doing is 'fast' so I might be ok.
Going to be a panel on a purse for an awesome teacher!

Supernatural Cursing - Necessary Clutch Wallet

If you are a fan of the tv show Supernatural, you know there is some banter and occasional 'bad word' that makes it way into the show.  For those that are easily offended, feel free to skip this post!
I need to stock up on the swing locks again, I'm down to only 2 left!

WIP Thursday - Nope, Not Back On Schedule

The universe likes to laugh at my puny attempts to get things under control and throw things at a case of streph and a sinus infection.  Don't worry, I stayed away from the fabric, so it's safe!
Tiki stitch is going to become some tank tops and tote bags!

WIP Wednesday - Back on Schedule

Well, back on schedule for the blog posts, but not for the sewing.  Somehow the weekend FLEW by and I'm really not sure where the first half of this week went either...
New Strike offs for Moon Beam Textiles!  Make sure you get in your LOTR preorder before it closes Monday!

No Man Hollyhock Hobo (Blue Calla) - Moon Beam Fabrics

When you have some epic panels, finding the right pattern can be tricky!
Maps from Affordable Fabrics and More were a perfect coordinate for the Moon Beam Panels!

WIP Thursday - May Day!

Technically May Day was Tuesday, but it is fun to say...And I am not ready for May either.  I really wish this year would stop flying by!
Final project for the Moon Beam strike off's!  Almost done, so you get late night pic

Riders of Rohan Sandra Saddle Bag (Swoon) - Moon Beam Textiles

The latest amazing fabric I got the chance to play with is the new pre-order now open at Moon Beam Textiles!
I love my new LED lightbox, it actually gets the colors better than the last one, it's just TINY!

Kitty Cat Emma Purses (ChrisW Designs)

After making the epic cat-tastic Sydney for a customer, she contacted me to ask for smaller purses for her girls since they loved hers so much!
Not quite matching purses for two little girls!

WIP Wednesday - Onward and Upward!

Can't stop now, I'm the closest to caught up I've been in YEARS!
For a fabric I wasn't totally in love with when I picked it out, this one has been getting a lot of attention!

Hello Kitty Polaris (Sew Sweetness)

It has been a long time since I first made the Pirate Bunny Polaris for the Bag of the Month Club, so I kind of forgot about this pattern!
It's cool how the different straps almost make the fabric look different!

As You Wish - Pegasus Cross Body Bag Testing

When the chance to test another pattern for XOXO by Lauren came up, I was super excited and did my best to squeeze it into my busy schedule (ok, I might have jumped it ahead of a few, but it's fast so that's not a huge deal...)
Mine, all mine.

WIP Wednesday - Naps Sound Amazing

For some reason, the later I stay up, the more tired I get.  It's like sleep is required or something.  I wish I was one of the people that can take a 10-15 minute nap and wake up refreshed, but if I ever do nap, it's at least 3 hours and I'm groggy for several hours after that...
Dread Pirate Roberts will be on my next purse!  He's MINE!

Mickey Get Carded Wallet (Dog Under My Desk)

It's been forever since I made a Get Carded wallet, and it's just as fast as I remember! This was the second half of a recent order, the 'simpler' wallet for a younger child.  The fabric is the same print as the Brandt's Boulevard, but a different color for the background.  It doesn't have a long cash pocket, but it does have a zipper pocket, ID slot, and inside card slots, with one of them being deeper so it could hold folded money.
Rainbow zippers make everything better

WIP Wednesday - Deadlines Galore

You don't realize how much you depend on the internet until it's gone...which happened over the weekend and I was LOST!  I need to print patterns that weren't on my laptop...and my ipad doesn't print to the wireless printer (or at least I haven't figured out how to do it since it's a super old one...).  It was a helpless I ended up making pillow cases for my kids and searching my stash for printed patterns I could use! There was also some house cleaning done...which is pretty rare around here. ;)
Pillowcases, left is custom fabric, right is licensed fabric...I'd love to sell but doubt people would pay $20 for a single pillowcase!

How I Roll - Emma Purse - Moonbeam Fabric Preorder!

The second project I decided to make with the Moon Beam strike offs was also a tester for a later order.  I needed to see if I could make the Emma (From ChrisW Designs) big enough to fit a tablet and large set of headphones, but I didn't want to risk the harder to replace instead I went with impossible to replace fabric (it makes sense to me...just go with it).  For the strike offs, I received 2 identical panels in different sizes and a yard of the dice fabric, so my second project had to be a smaller one!
Black fabric really hides the details of the flap...

WIP Wednesday - Back On Track

Or maybe I'm just getting closer to the track...But at least I'm moving forward!  I did get a few projects finished over the last week, but then I managed to get my gas permeable contact stuck to my eye and it REALLY hurt, so that threw me off for a few days.  I can see again, so no more excuses!  (I'll spare you the picture my husband decided to take and share with wasn't pretty)
This fabric is all kinds of awesome

How I Roll - Fresno Foldover - New Moonbeam Fabric Preorder!

I'm more of a video/computer gamer than a RP or table top gamer, but this fabric was still fun to sew up!  The Gamer round is open from April 1-20th for preorder, so make sure to grab some of your favorites Here! (affiliated link) This time I received a yard of the coordinating dice fabric and 2 of the same panels, just in different sizes.  The graphics on the adult sized panel were slightly larger, but there was also a LOT of extra fabric to work with.  I was able to cut the entire front AND the strap out of the bigger panel!
How do you roll?

WIP Wednesday - Lost My Sew-jo

I'm going to blame the procreating trees and strange weather we've been having lately for my random sinus pressure and lack of sewing motivation.  A purse I can usually finish in one day took me an entire weekend and a few extra days!  Of course I was modifying the pattern, which adds time, but when it came to the sewing part I was just puttering along.  I sew because it makes me happy and gives me a productive hobby/part time business, so when I hit slumps, sometimes I need to take a step back and do something else to make sure I don't get burnt out.  I think getting a full night's sleep might help...Naps make me groggy and throw off my sense of time!  (also, desks at work aren't really made for napping, too small to hide under and too lumpy to sleep on! LOL)
I may be obsessed with coffee fabric.

Mermaid Essential Oils Pouches

When I got a request for an essential oils mermaid pouch, I had to start scouring the internet for patterns.  For some reason I thought they would be larger, but when I borrowed a bottle, I was amazed at how small it was!  These little pouches turned out great, once I gave up on the boxy pouch style!  I love this mermaid fabric, the colors are soft and remind me of sunrise.
Now I want a beach day...

WIP Wednesday - Magical Coffee

Somehow the week is flying by (as usual) and it feels like I'm barely getting anything done!  I have packages I need to ship out but first they need to be packed up, and before that, I need to take pictures, which means dragging out the light box and clearing a spot for it...goal for tonight?

I need to do something epic with this panel.  And get some spares when retail opens!

Mickey Brandt's Boulevard (ChrisW Designs)

The Brandt's Boulevard is a great wallet, with just enough pockets to store a few cards, cash, and change, but with a fun style that helps it stand out!  I've lost count of how many I made!  This one was for a repeat customer - her kids kept stealing the one I made her so they needed their own wallets!

WIP Wednesday/Thursday - I Swear Stuff Is Getting Done

It just doesn't feel like I'm being very productive lately.  I'm going to blame the time change.  That sounds legit. And I'm not late on this post, I meant to delay it so you could fully enjoy yesterday's pattern release...yes, that was totally planned.
Guardians of the Galaxy quotes helped me keep laughing as I screwed up...

Gabbie's Grove Pattern Testing (ChrisW Designs)

It seems like forever since I've tested a new bag for Christine (at least since December when I worked on the Podium....which was FOREVER ago!)  This new bag is a fold over convertible miracle!  It goes from giant tote to fold over clutch, and even magically can become a backpack!  You can get Gabbie's Grove HERE, and if you are signed up for Christine's newsletter, you can even get an exclusive discount code for the first few days of a release (sign up now, and she might even send it back out!)
Folded over, there's a phone pocket on this side

Jelly Pens Hipster Pouch

I love using patterns for purses, even if I go WAY off the rails with my mods, I have a basis that should (hopefully) lead to a great finished project.  For this one, I used the tutorial from Make It and Love It and made some modifications.  This is a very simple project, but having someone else do the initial measurements was nice!
With a coordinating key chain!

Brandt's Boulevard - Flash Sew Along!

This is a speedy sew along, with a quick pattern!  We'll leave it open through the weekend so everyone that wants to can have a chance to join!  You'll need to be a member of the ChrisW Designs group on Facebook and then respond as "going" to the Event, plus sew along to be eligible for the prizes!  Make sure you join, Amanda has graciously offered to do some live videos of the wallet!

The Brandt's Boulevard is one of the Easy Street Patterns, and I've done sew alongs for it before, but it's a great pattern and I get orders for it all the time!  I finally broke down and made a template for the strap piece with my dollar store cutting board, but it keeps wandering off...the template is great because I can audition my cuts before I actually make them to see what will be covered by the tongue lock!  Since I can't find my template (maybe need to clean the sewing room...eventually), I made a new one and I can show you the steps!
Template piece, auditioning my placement!

WIP Wednesday - Procraftination, My Old Friend

I'm actually fully booked for project for this month, but that doesn't seem to stop me from trying to take on more!  I am trying to do better at giving myself time to finish orders and stay within deadlines, but then fun things come up and say "Make ME!" and my procraftination comes out full force!  The keychains are still so much fun to make, but now I need to get back to my other orders!
I never get tired of looking at this fabric!
