WIP Wednesday - Onward and Upward!

Can't stop now, I'm the closest to caught up I've been in YEARS!
For a fabric I wasn't totally in love with when I picked it out, this one has been getting a lot of attention!

Hello Kitty Polaris (Sew Sweetness)

It has been a long time since I first made the Pirate Bunny Polaris for the Bag of the Month Club, so I kind of forgot about this pattern!
It's cool how the different straps almost make the fabric look different!

As You Wish - Pegasus Cross Body Bag Testing

When the chance to test another pattern for XOXO by Lauren came up, I was super excited and did my best to squeeze it into my busy schedule (ok, I might have jumped it ahead of a few, but it's fast so that's not a huge deal...)
Mine, all mine.

WIP Wednesday - Naps Sound Amazing

For some reason, the later I stay up, the more tired I get.  It's like sleep is required or something.  I wish I was one of the people that can take a 10-15 minute nap and wake up refreshed, but if I ever do nap, it's at least 3 hours and I'm groggy for several hours after that...
Dread Pirate Roberts will be on my next purse!  He's MINE!

Mickey Get Carded Wallet (Dog Under My Desk)

It's been forever since I made a Get Carded wallet, and it's just as fast as I remember! This was the second half of a recent order, the 'simpler' wallet for a younger child.  The fabric is the same print as the Brandt's Boulevard, but a different color for the background.  It doesn't have a long cash pocket, but it does have a zipper pocket, ID slot, and inside card slots, with one of them being deeper so it could hold folded money.
Rainbow zippers make everything better

WIP Wednesday - Deadlines Galore

You don't realize how much you depend on the internet until it's gone...which happened over the weekend and I was LOST!  I need to print patterns that weren't on my laptop...and my ipad doesn't print to the wireless printer (or at least I haven't figured out how to do it since it's a super old one...).  It was a helpless feeling...so I ended up making pillow cases for my kids and searching my stash for printed patterns I could use! There was also some house cleaning done...which is pretty rare around here. ;)
Pillowcases, left is custom fabric, right is licensed fabric...I'd love to sell but doubt people would pay $20 for a single pillowcase!

How I Roll - Emma Purse - Moonbeam Fabric Preorder!

The second project I decided to make with the Moon Beam strike offs was also a tester for a later order.  I needed to see if I could make the Emma (From ChrisW Designs) big enough to fit a tablet and large set of headphones, but I didn't want to risk the harder to replace fabric...so instead I went with impossible to replace fabric (it makes sense to me...just go with it).  For the strike offs, I received 2 identical panels in different sizes and a yard of the dice fabric, so my second project had to be a smaller one!
Black fabric really hides the details of the flap...

WIP Wednesday - Back On Track

Or maybe I'm just getting closer to the track...But at least I'm moving forward!  I did get a few projects finished over the last week, but then I managed to get my gas permeable contact stuck to my eye and it REALLY hurt, so that threw me off for a few days.  I can see again, so no more excuses!  (I'll spare you the picture my husband decided to take and share with Facebook...it wasn't pretty)
This fabric is all kinds of awesome

How I Roll - Fresno Foldover - New Moonbeam Fabric Preorder!

I'm more of a video/computer gamer than a RP or table top gamer, but this fabric was still fun to sew up!  The Gamer round is open from April 1-20th for preorder, so make sure to grab some of your favorites Here! (affiliated link) This time I received a yard of the coordinating dice fabric and 2 of the same panels, just in different sizes.  The graphics on the adult sized panel were slightly larger, but there was also a LOT of extra fabric to work with.  I was able to cut the entire front AND the strap out of the bigger panel!
How do you roll?

WIP Wednesday - Lost My Sew-jo

I'm going to blame the procreating trees and strange weather we've been having lately for my random sinus pressure and lack of sewing motivation.  A purse I can usually finish in one day took me an entire weekend and a few extra days!  Of course I was modifying the pattern, which adds time, but when it came to the sewing part I was just puttering along.  I sew because it makes me happy and gives me a productive hobby/part time business, so when I hit slumps, sometimes I need to take a step back and do something else to make sure I don't get burnt out.  I think getting a full night's sleep might help...Naps make me groggy and throw off my sense of time!  (also, desks at work aren't really made for napping, too small to hide under and too lumpy to sleep on! LOL)
I may be obsessed with coffee fabric.

Mermaid Essential Oils Pouches

When I got a request for an essential oils mermaid pouch, I had to start scouring the internet for patterns.  For some reason I thought they would be larger, but when I borrowed a bottle, I was amazed at how small it was!  These little pouches turned out great, once I gave up on the boxy pouch style!  I love this mermaid fabric, the colors are soft and remind me of sunrise.
Now I want a beach day...

WIP Wednesday - Magical Coffee

Somehow the week is flying by (as usual) and it feels like I'm barely getting anything done!  I have packages I need to ship out but first they need to be packed up, and before that, I need to take pictures, which means dragging out the light box and clearing a spot for it...goal for tonight?

I need to do something epic with this panel.  And get some spares when retail opens!

Mickey Brandt's Boulevard (ChrisW Designs)

The Brandt's Boulevard is a great wallet, with just enough pockets to store a few cards, cash, and change, but with a fun style that helps it stand out!  I've lost count of how many I made!  This one was for a repeat customer - her kids kept stealing the one I made her so they needed their own wallets!

WIP Wednesday/Thursday - I Swear Stuff Is Getting Done

It just doesn't feel like I'm being very productive lately.  I'm going to blame the time change.  That sounds legit. And I'm not late on this post, I meant to delay it so you could fully enjoy yesterday's pattern release...yes, that was totally planned.
Guardians of the Galaxy quotes helped me keep laughing as I screwed up...

Gabbie's Grove Pattern Testing (ChrisW Designs)

It seems like forever since I've tested a new bag for Christine (at least since December when I worked on the Podium....which was FOREVER ago!)  This new bag is a fold over convertible miracle!  It goes from giant tote to fold over clutch, and even magically can become a backpack!  You can get Gabbie's Grove HERE, and if you are signed up for Christine's newsletter, you can even get an exclusive discount code for the first few days of a release (sign up now, and she might even send it back out!)
Folded over, there's a phone pocket on this side

Jelly Pens Hipster Pouch

I love using patterns for purses, even if I go WAY off the rails with my mods, I have a basis that should (hopefully) lead to a great finished project.  For this one, I used the tutorial from Make It and Love It and made some modifications.  This is a very simple project, but having someone else do the initial measurements was nice!
With a coordinating key chain!

Brandt's Boulevard - Flash Sew Along!

This is a speedy sew along, with a quick pattern!  We'll leave it open through the weekend so everyone that wants to can have a chance to join!  You'll need to be a member of the ChrisW Designs group on Facebook and then respond as "going" to the Event, plus sew along to be eligible for the prizes!  Make sure you join, Amanda has graciously offered to do some live videos of the wallet!

The Brandt's Boulevard is one of the Easy Street Patterns, and I've done sew alongs for it before, but it's a great pattern and I get orders for it all the time!  I finally broke down and made a template for the strap piece with my dollar store cutting board, but it keeps wandering off...the template is great because I can audition my cuts before I actually make them to see what will be covered by the tongue lock!  Since I can't find my template (maybe need to clean the sewing room...eventually), I made a new one and I can show you the steps!
Template piece, auditioning my placement!

WIP Wednesday - Procraftination, My Old Friend

I'm actually fully booked for project for this month, but that doesn't seem to stop me from trying to take on more!  I am trying to do better at giving myself time to finish orders and stay within deadlines, but then fun things come up and say "Make ME!" and my procraftination comes out full force!  The keychains are still so much fun to make, but now I need to get back to my other orders!
I never get tired of looking at this fabric!

Another Magical Messenger Bag - Sydney (Swoon)

I do have a LOT of Harry Potter inspired fabric in my stash, and this purse took advantage of that!  3 of the fabrics used were custom printed ones and the fourth was a fun starry galactic one that is a great coordinate!  I think it's about time to invest in the templates, since I'm making at least a Sydney every other month (or sometimes 2x in one month...)  I started cutting out multiples of the interfacing, so that is speeding it up a little, but I think actual templates would be better!
Sydney looks pretty fancy with my tiger on there!

WIP Wednesday - And So Ends Another Month

Bring it on, March!  I'm ready to bust through the next month and stay on track...I hope!  I feel really blessed that I'm getting in repeat orders and new orders, just need to make sure I don't overbook myself!  Fortunately most of the recent orders have been for 'quick' and small projects, but those are the ones I procrastinate on thinking they won't take long to finish!
Now available on Etsy!  You can even custom order your favorite characters!

Middle Earth Ramona (Swoon)

Oddly enough, it's rather difficult to find Lord of the Rings purses.  There is some fabric out there that is from the movies (digitally printed images) but finding one that is 'cool' enough to become a purse is pretty rare.  When I came across the preorder from Affordable Fabrics and More for this awesome Middle Earth map, you know I had to jump on that!  I have it in several different colors, but I think the green and tan (aged parchment!) is probably my favorite.
Batman is disappointed because there are no good swimming holes marked

WIP Wednesday - Where Did February Go??

Last time I checked, it was the start of the month, and now we only have a week left in this month...I know it's a short month, but COME ON!  I've barely touched my embroidery machine this week, other than making some white tiger felties, which are much cuter than the orange ones.
I think the tiger in white rainbow glitter vinyl is ADORABLE!

Cat-tastic Sydney Messenger Bag! (Swoon) And Professional Pouch

Following my pattern for making bags that feature a LOT of fun fabrics, this Kitty purse is definitely one for the books!  All the kitty fabric came from Dark Matter Fabrics (custom fabric) and more than half of them were out of print, so it was a struggle to find them all! Sydney (by Swoon) is great for featuring several different prints since it has a detailed front with a lot of pieces!
Do you like cats? A LOT?

WIP Wednesday - I'm Alive!

I survived! now to catch back up on EVERYTHING.  I still have 2 weeks to finish up my February list, good thing most of the purses on it are quick ones!  And I only have one order so far for March, might be a a little bit of a slower month where I can sew some fun stuff for me AND the kids!
Trying out a logo for my purses, it's an adorable feltie.  Orange isn't really my favorite color, so maybe white tigers?

More Magical Connie's Wristlets!

When I first tested the Connie Wristlet pattern for R+R creations, I thought it was a fun and fast project, but didn't know if I'd have a chance to make more any time soon.  Silly me, I should have known better!  Right away I had a few people contact me and the first one bought the test one that day, with others wanting to order their own!  The best part of doing custom purses is that even when I'm duplicating something I already made, each one is going to look a little different, especially with fun fabrics like these!
Definitely not identical twins!

WIP Wednesday - Flu Intermission

Thanks to getting hit with the cold/flu going around, not much is getting done.  Instead, enjoy these pictures of pretty fabric while I recover and try not to spread germs on all the orders...
The fabric of my childhood!

WIP Wednesday - End of January

Today is the last day of January, which means that it's official...the year is already flying by!  Somehow I finished up 2 purses last weekend, and they were fast ones, but sometimes I amaze myself!  Now if I could keep up that pace, I might actually sew through all my fabric before I'm 80!  (but I'll have bought more along the way to replace it...Ok, maybe sewn through all the fabric currently in my craft studio!)
"Dragons Wolves a throne to claim Open a book if you're game"

Always Rosie (Swoon Pattern)

My final panel from the Moonbeam run was this amazing "Always".  It reminded me of the concealed carry Rosie so I decided to make a new version with it (not concealed, just pretty!).  The fabric is open for preorder TODAY so make sure to snag some of your favorites! (affiliated links)

Do I still love this purse after all this time?

Magical Charlotte (Swoon Pattern)

The next bag I sewed up from the Moonbeam Color Me Potter strike offs (affiliated link) was one I've owned but never sewn (another one to mark off my list!) the Charlotte by Swoon.  This is a tote bag with minimal pockets (only one!!) but the shape and style to it more than makes up for the lack of pockets!
The colors are so bright and vivid in person, so hard to find the right backdrop to make them pop!

Soot Sprite Diaper Bag - XOXO by Lauren Pattern Testing

Have you checked out XOXO By Lauren's patterns yet? Her Boon Wallet is super cute and fast, and the Brownie wallet is even faster!  I was excited to be chosen to test her new pattern, a mini diaper bag style pattern, the Soot Sprite!  (Bag pattern will release Friday!)
Is the song stuck in your head now? I've been singing it for DAYS.

WIP Wednesday - Panic Is Creeping Closer

Last week I had PLENTY of time to get everything done, but then I hit a time warp and suddenly I have a million things to do in the next week...finish up a pattern test, make 2 more projects to show off some fun new fabric coming, and work on the purse orders starting to stack up!
Custom kitty is shipping out today!

Tatspirational Annette by Swoon

I've been carrying my SuperWhoLock Sydney purse for a year now, and while I still love it, she's starting to show some wear and I'm ready to change up my style for a while.  I need a big purse, with lots of pockets, plus I have a stash of awesome fabric that I really bought for myself (but used my business as an excuse/justification). The search for the 'perfect' purse is never-ending but I think the Annette (affiliated link) is a good resting place!  I could use about a million more pockets on the outside, but I really like the clean look of this one and it's perfect for displaying amazing fabrics!
This side has some of my  favorites, Rapunzel, Lilo and Stitch, and Beauty and the Beast

WIP Wednesday - I Should Be More Frantic, But I'm Not. Not Yet.

I feel like I have a ton of stuff waiting for me, but at the same time, I'm ahead of my schedule so I'm in no rush...I should probably just bust everything out because it will take me longer than I expect...Saying I have 6 purses to sew by the end of the month, which is 2 weeks away isn't causing the usual level of panic...I'm not sure what's wrong with me or what's in my coffee to make me so calm.  Maybe I've reached such a high level of stress that my brain has snapped and I'm ready to paint happy trees and call it a day?  (I'm not a painter, my happy trees look like happy puddles of green sludge)
Preorder coming soon from Moonbeam!  Did you sing it? I totally do every time I look at it...

Floral Wars Carrier's Conquest

I can't even remember when Carrier's Conquest from ChrisW Designs was part of Bag of the Month club, but at the time I was too swamped to make one as a pattern tester.  It's been on my list since then, so I'm glad to finally mark it off!  And bonus, it's pretty awesome!
I need to remember to account for vinyl overlays when I try to fussy cut...

WIP Wednesday - Emphasis on the 'In Progress'

Is it just me, or is 2018 trying to pick up speed and fly by just like last year? I'm not going crazy on a birthday party this year...mainly because I have a sinus infection.  I keep looking for some fun things to make for my son's party, but he only decided last weekend on Mario theme, so that didn't give me a lot of time!  He gets what he gets...which is pretty much whatever I could find on Amazon and shipped fast.

Cuddly Blankets and Reading Pillows

Now I can finally start sharing the Christmas orders!  The 'new' thing I saw this year in my embroidery groups was reading pillows.  They are pillow covers with a pocket on the front to hold a book and a cute saying and picture.  I was looking for an excuse to make a few, and fortunately a customer fell in love with the idea and decided her girls needed one each!  And they needed matching blankets! Blanket toppers are also pretty new, custom printed minky is amazing!
Does it say 'Star Wars' to you? I thought it might be too subtle ;)
A set worthy of a House Elf!

WIP Wednesday - New Year, Same list!

Ok, not exactly the same, but this is the year I'll get more things crossed off the list!  And then I can add new things!!
Custom fabric from Knitorious and vinyl from Punkbroidery - a match made in Mermaid heaven!

2018 Craft Resolutions and World Domination Plans

Wait, did I say that out loud? I mean...world donut plans..  Yes, donuts.  Mmm, now I want donuts.

Back to the main topic, I love making plans and lists and especially marking things off the list (have you seen my WIP Wednesdays? That list is kind of insane).  They say that the best resolutions are ones that you create specific plans to meet them (saying 'I want to lose weight' apparently doesn't work) and also keep track of the progress.  I have a few exercise resolutions for this year involving getting on the elliptical every other day for 30 minutes and completing some of my 30- and 60- day workout plans, but so does everyone else I bet. ;)  The fun resolutions are craft related!

1. Organize my craft studio

  • put all fabric on comic book boards (ordered a few hundred more)
  • clear out fabric I no longer love (destash groups)
  • put together another cubicle (been staring at it for a few months now, still in the box)
  • move fabric tubs for fleece and flannel downstairs (rarely seem to use them and that's where they lived in the old house)
  • work on getting all my hardware into one area/sorted by size
  • hang up pegboard (needs spacers and then holes drilled
  • hang up whiteboard (need to find some nails or screws that fit in the built in holes)

2. Sew at least one of my 'never been sewn' patterns every month from my stash

  • I have a ton of purse patterns I bought on sale and haven't had a chance to try out yet
  •  Even more embroidery patterns in my stash...I should aim for 1 new stitch out every week, along with finishing items to list on the new etsy shop
  • As I lose weight, then I'll try some of my clothing patterns...but that will take a bit longer.

3. Finish UFO's/WISP (work in slow progress)

  • at least 1 UFO/WIP a month, along with listing on Etsy or gifting
  • crochet projects - either finish or frog any I run across in my cleaning

4. Quilts

  • Finally make my kids the pokemon quilts I promised them last year (or was it the year before? They still like it, so all good)
  • Try the Legendary quilt pattern (I NEED a Bigfoot quilt in my life!)

5. Etsy

  • Move all the listings to the new shop:  www.tigerinatornado.etsy.com
  • Build up on hand stock through the summer so that when September/October/November rolls around I'm not scrambling to meet orders and do custom orders and make costumes for the kids and do Christmas presents...
  • List new items at least 2x per month after the original listings are done (hopefully part of the finish WIPs and trying some of my other patterns!)

Non-craft related:

 Writing:

  • Get my book published, either through an agent or self published (deadline of July to find an agent before I start the self published route
  • Finish another book (either the second one, or go for something completely different)
  • Submit short stories to sci-fi magazines (at least 3)

Sleep:

  • get some

The Podium by ChrisW Designs

I hope you already joined the Bag of the month club, because the first pattern is out!  This is a unique style and relatively fast to make (versus Chris's last year offering of the Factotum and Mini Facto which was totally awesome but SO MANY pieces!!)  You can still join at any time during the club run (now until June 30) and whenever you join, you get all the patterns that have been released up to that point.
I told him not to blink...
