Time for more fun fabric! This time it's the Everything is Grey round from KNITorious fabric. I received a half yard of this fun Totoro/Ghibli inspired fabric in nylon repel, which was just barely enough to make the larger version of the Bodacious Bowler from ChrisW Designs.
| The iridescent tags from Laser Llama were a fun way to add my brand to the bag |
I like this bowler bag pattern because it finishes without any binding or drop in liner, but still has the good fit inside! The accent vinyl is a tooled pink, which I've had in my stash for a while.
| Not just a print, this vinyl has an actual raised design |
| The pink is a perfect accent |
The outside of this bag has a big front slip pocket, and an in-seam phone pocket.
| I left off the magnet on this pocket, didn't want to hide any of the pretty design! |
| Pocket looks a little puffy because I used foam for the stabilizer, but it is a deep one! |
This wasn't my first time using the Nylon repel fabric, but I think it's really starting to grow on me! The details are just as crisp as on woven fabric, but it's a little thicker because it has a backing, AND it gives the bag some water resistance! Plus, it makes the satisfying
scrtchy noise when you run your fingernails over it...
| Up close - my camera picked up some of the texture, those lines aren't visible when you look at the fabric |
Inside is a zipper pocket and a slip pocket. I found some pretty succulent fabric in my stash, either a Hobby Lobby or Joann's find, that was a great color match. The zipper tape from
Wizardry, Stitchery, and Crafts also ended up being a perfect match, with the fun Day dream iridescent zipper teeth.
| Fun zipper for the inside! |
| Divided slip pocket, has a pen slot and then a bigger area |
I dug out some of my Ghibli inspired zipper pulls, to give it just a little extra pizzazz! I can't remember where I originally found the designs, but they've been in my collection for many years.
| I only had Calcifer in silver, so that forced my hardware choice for this purse. |
The nice thing about the bowler bag is that it can open super wide! I added in the second zipper pull to make that easier. It's a pretty huge bag, so you need to be able to dig around.
| Side view, so much room! |
Be sure to check out the other amazing Knitorious fabrics in this round, which is closing VERY soon!
| One last view, I'm pretty proud of this bag! |
