I was fortunate to test the new Coronado Crossbody purse pattern from The Styled Magnolia, and after a bunch of raw edge wallets, clear projects, and other simple projects, it was a nice change!
I think she's dreaming of all the places this purse could go! |
The vinyl design is bold with minimal details, but instantly recognizable! |
The pattern uses vinyl for the exterior and woven fabric for the lining. The flap is great for showing off a fun print or featuring a part of the design, and it was PERFECT for this gorgeous TLM Damask from Knitorious! I matched it with a Marine Metallic Purple Sea vinyl from My Punkbroidery for the accents.
I forgot the snap was going in there, but now her hair has bling! |
The gusset in a solid color really makes the damask stand out more |
I even had a gorgeous matching seatbelt webbing strap from Wizardry, Stitchery, and Crafts in my stash! Add in some amazing rainbow hardware, zipper tape, and mermaid tail pulls (also from W,S,&C), and I think this purse would be great for anyone's collection!
Buckle D-ring to the rescue for a 3/4" slider! |
and a tiny piece of glitter vinyl to help the webbing not slide through too easily |
All the mermaid tail zippers and lavender zipper tape! |
The purse features a front pocket, and 2 zippered areas. I used a super pretty licensed Ariel fabric from my collection for the lining fabric. The thread is the celebration string from Wizardry, Stitchery, and Crafts, and was a perfect accent!
Looking down into the front pocket, the flap keeps things pretty secure! |
The back zipper pocket has another zipper pocket inside, and finishes so that the seams are totally enclosed.
With another mermaid tail zipper inside! |
The bigger area was my nemesis, mainly because it uses binding to finish, and I was in a rush so I was trying to sew it on with the machine instead of by hand like I usually do. It did get a little thick in areas, so I switched to the Sailrite machine for the finishing and it glided through it all like butter! (once I got the tension right...) There are more slip pockets inside the main area. I think if I make it again I'll change how it finishes so I can skip the binding.

Inside slip pockets, with a little vinyl top accent |
I think the purse is about to start singing... |
Pretend that binding is nice and smooth...it will be hidden when the purse is full anyway! |
The pattern is on sale this week, so be sure to grab your copy! If you'd like to order a custom made one, I have room in my schedule, just message me on Facebook or send an email!
