WIP Wednesday - Serendipity Hip Sew Along Week 1

We are already 5 days into the sew along and um...I picked my fabric and cut out my pattern!  Busy people of the world unite...in our free time!  ;)  I do have my pattern, fabric, and notions all gathered together in a stylish freezer bag...that should count for something!  Make sure that you have joined in on the fun with the ChrisW Designs Facebook group!

(It's all in there!)

Serendipity Hip Sew Along - Week 1

It's time to get started! Get your pattern cut out, read through the instructions one last time, and jump right in!

I can't wait to see all the great combos that everyone comes up with, it's always inspiring to see different takes on the same pattern.  I've decided that a sushi purse needed to be made, so this is the fabric I'll be using!  Don't forget to check in on the Facebook group, there will be random drawings throughout the sew along and prizes at the end chosen from all completed purses. Check in next week to see an announcement of what prizes will be up for grabs!
(Green accent and yellow for the interior!)

Serendipity Hip Sew Along - Prep Work and Schedule

It's almost time to start the sew along!  If you are an overachiever, you may have already finished one bag (not me, I haven't even cut out the pattern!)  Make sure you have the correct pattern, the Serendipity Hip by ChrisW Designs!

Official Start is Saturday, April 25.  If you want to be able to jump right in, I suggest you have your pattern pieces printed and cut out, and read the pattern at least once.  Gather up the supplies you need, if you are having trouble deciding on fabrics, post it in the group, we love looking at everyone else's pretty fabrics and giving advice!

(One of my fabric choices - would be a very fun purse!)

WIP Wednesday - Prep for the Serendipity Hip Sew Along!

Somehow Wednesday snuck up on me again!  It keeps showing up like a bad penny...  The only good news is that Thursday and Friday seem to quickly follow!

Anyway....sorry for the rambling, this is some pretty good cold medicine!

Finishes since last week:
(Under the front flap - pockets with appliqued vinyl Weeping Angel and Adipose)

Flower Power! or, Totally Intimidating Projects That Turn Out to be 'Not That Bad'

You know those patterns you buy and think "Oooh, this is AWESOME, I totally want to make this!" and then you look at it later and think "ugh, that's going to be a TON of work, maybe someday I'll do it..."  That was THIS pattern for me.  An adorable flowered headband that my youngest saw and loved so I bought it, and then I looked at the file realized it had many, many pieces.  Finally I just forced myself to sit down and make it, and surprisingly enough, it didn't take me 27 days to make!  I finished it in just 2 days, which makes me think that maybe I should make a few more and see if they are a good thing for craft fairs and etsy.

(So many pieces to cut and glue on!  But worth it in the end!)

Redwork Embroidery (P.S., It's not always Red!)

One of the "newest" styles of embroidery that I'm seeing around is the line drawings of characters.  From famous characters to cute animals, it's something I can totally get behind!  The designs are simple but super cute!
(Just a few of the designs I now own - stitched on glitter vinyl with felt backing)

WIP Wednesday - Moving right along

Last weekend I finally got moving on the new purse, it's all cut out and about 1/2 finished!  For the front pockets I appliqued on some Doctor Who images in vinyl, but it turns out they are slightly off center.  Oh well, it's for me, I'll live with it!
(She can't look at how off center it is, it makes her weep!)

Monday Check in - Upcoming Sew Along!

So apparently it is Monday again.  Huh.  Anyway... The Lombard Street Sew along has ended, and the prizes are being awarded this week!  Lots of amazing bags were finished, so check out the ChrisW Designs Patterns FaceBook page to see what those amazing ladies did!  Next up is a Serendipity Hip Sew along that I will be leading!

(Remember this purse?  It's so cute!)

WIP Wednesday - indecision week!

Have you ever had so many things that you want to to, but instead of picking one and going with it you end up either staring at your choices until you don't have time to do anything, or just giving up and laying on the couch reading a book?  Yeah, um, that is totally what is happening this week!
(Flap is ready to be cut down to size)

Bag of the Month Club - February's Hyacinth Bag

For Christmas I asked my Mom for a subscription to the Bag of the Month club, which is 6 patterns that are released on the first of the month, by 6 different designers.  I had the subscription last year and made two of the purses, (Bye Bye Love and the Midtown Messenger)  but I really would love to make more of them.  Since I was so slow last year, I decided to try to keep up and make the purses BEFORE the club ended, especially since there are prizes for completing them!

(This picture is pretty true to color, and I LOVE those colors!)

WIP Wednesday - April Fools!

My son was trying to trick me this morning as I stumbled my way to getting ready for work, but for some reason I didn't fall for his "There's no school today" trick, or even the "Daddy said that on April 1st we can be as late as we want" trick.  I hope he tricks someone today, it would totally make his day!

However, no tricking going on here, unless you count tricking my brain into thinking it is awake after only one cup of coffee...
(Embroidered and quilted.  Makes me wish I was better at free motion quilting, I'd add in all KINDS of cool stuff, like sea shells and ... stuff)
