Flappy Duncan Messenger Sling - Snow Willow Designs Fabric and Sincerely Jen Patterns

The lesson I learned with this project was, 'don't give me an excessive amount of time to prepare' because I will STILL procrastinate until the last minute. I've had the String Theory Funky Bunch 2: Electric Boogaloo fabric since last year, and it took me forever to settle on a pattern, then even longer to cut out all the pieces! Once I started sewing, it wasn't too bad (except for midnight sewing where I was THISCLOSE to attaching the gusset upside-down!) and I'm really glad it's finished!

I'm pretending the wrinkles add character, which is the justification I give for not ironing my clothes...

Close up on the panel, so much attitude!
The awesome fabric is the second version of the Funky Bunch from Snow Willow Designs, and is up for preorder now! I sewed up the Flappy designs, without the words, and the coordinate. The panel is the sack single size and it was so perfect for the Duncan Messenger Sling from Sincerely, Jen Patterns!

The Speechless version, great scale for a bigger bag!
I've never made this bag before, but it didn't seem structured enough with just the fleece and cotton woven fabric, so I decided foam would be perfect. I did cut it out of the seam allowances on the gusset, but I should have done it more on the main pieces, it made the finishing stitching and then birthing through the turn holes MUCH harder! My fingertips are still sore from fighting with it, and it was really comparable to childbirth! LOL! It also wrinkled REALLY bad, but I didn't have time to keep working at it to get it all nice and smooth. I apologize for the wrinkles, but I just needed to get some pics!
It does puff out by itself, thanks to the foam.

Unicorn zipper pull, so SHINY!

This bag ended up larger than I expected, and it has a bunch of pockets! I used up all 5 of my remaining gold unicorn zipper pulls from Wizardry, Stitchery, and Crafts for the bag, plus the last of my gold triangle connectors! I rarely use gold hardware, so I got lucky that I was able to find everything in my stash. I was trying to find a good vinyl for the accents, and the gold tooled from My Punkbroidery was perfect! The shiny metallic gold texture gives it just that little extra pop to make the bag really stand out!

Double zipper pulls on the main bag make it easy to open fully!

The bag has a front slip pocket on top of another pocket that closes with a zipper and a flap, plus the flap has another zipper pocket in it!

Slip pocket and gold magnets

The zipper is a galactic one from the stash, had the perfect colors!
And there is ANOTHER slip pocket inside the zippered area!

I think next time I'll add in a divider to this pocket, maybe a pen slot

Inside, the bag has a giant slip pocket (for a small laptop or tablet?), and a zipper pocket, plus lots of room!

Those wrinkles should iron out, I was trying to fix a spot I missed sewing and undid all the ironing

I love the coordinate fabric, perfect match and a fun print that doesn't make it overwhelming!
I was skeptical that the 1" webbing would be a good strap, but the top connector helps it to actually feel nice when you are wearing the bag! There are connectors on both sides, so you can pick which shoulder to wear it over!
Closest strap match I had in my stash...actually a perfect match with the hooves!
Next time I make this bag, I'll probably stick to fleece, or maybe cut the foam a little smaller and do a binding finish.
Almost too big for my 'small adult' mannequin!
Make sure you check out the awesome fabric up for preorder until February 10, and you can even order all the previous prints as well!
