The Zara Double Zip Mini Accordion Wallet pattern JUST released and I admit that I was super intrigued by it, so I looked for an excuse to try it out. Fortunately I needed to make a project with the awesome strike fabric from Snow Willow Designs, so I was able to squeeze it in!

Getting the grey to show up required playing with different lighted areas. Also, I think my model needs a name. |

Can Narwhals give you the finger? Is it giving the flipper? |
The pattern is really nice looking, 2 zippered sections, lots of card slots, and an inside coin pocket! I used the Speechless version of the Funky Bunch fabric, with the Grey coordinate for my projects, the characters were perfect for featuring on the outside of the wallet, and I even was able to get them inside the card slots! The fabric comes with the 'clean' version without words, a 'pearl clutcher' version with snarky sayings, and then a 'crass' version with cussing. This is definitely a snarky fabric, and not for the easily offended!

I had to squish that part around a bit to get it to go evenly and close better |
|
All the card dividers, perfectly fit a credit card/gift card! |
I didn't have the peltex that it calls for in the pattern on hand, so I decided to substitute heavy Decovil. Many regrets. I did modify it slightly, leaving off the fusible fleece, and only doing half of the card slots interfaced, but there were some times I was holding my breath and hoping that my sewing machine wouldn't give up. I think I need to take it in for servicing/timing because my semi-industrial machine has been getting finicky with thicker stuff, which is the entire reason I bought it!

This wallet has a lot of STRUCTURE! |
I found the PERFECT matching zipper tape and zippers in my stash, both from Wizardry, Stitchery, and Crafts. I even used the Unicorn Mane sewing string, but the pictures don't show the fun rainbow very well! The zipper tape is the Alex Purple with night-mare iridescent teeth, and I also had the matching purple thread in my stash!

Did I super zoom in to show the awesome colors or hide my bad stitching? Yes? |
Don't look too close at my stitching, I was working on this very late at night, and also realized too late that I didn't have a really good zipper foot to stitch in the ditch, so my hand sewing had to hold up where my machine refused to go! I didn't even realize it skipped a few spots until I was editing the pictures...so this wallet is definitely NOT good enough to sell! I think the next time I make it will be better, but it was a learning curve!

Pretend the center section is nice and even...
|
The fabric is a collaboration with String Theory Fabric Art, and there are matching embroidery patterns! I stitched the Hate people one on the grey coordinate, which is so perfect for backgrounds, and even fun by itself! The grey is a soft color, with fun stars, hearts and symbols sprinkled through it.
I was pretty impressed, my orchids match the wallet! Be sure to get your Funky Bunch order in at
Snow Willow Designs by June 26 for this fun fabric!

One last fun shot! |
You did very well with that wallet. I gave up on sewing wallets and purses long ago. I did enjoy seeing the Hate people fabric, plus the fact that he gave me the finger.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I love to sew them, but sometimes they take a lot of seam ripper time to get even halfway decent looking. Usually the first one I sell at a discount because it's my 'learning' version and I need to practice (or don't sell at all because it's not good enough...yet). The fabric is super fun!
